The South in the North: Fernanda Assumpcao Pinto By Georgina González Sandoval |
![]() |
Even though her last name is very complicated to pronounce, she is really not that complicated as a person. She is from Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil, and she was born on July 28th of 1978, so she is 24 years old. She describes herself as an extrovert, ambitious and friendly. All these qualities are going to take her very high in life. She is a journalist, and the reason she wants to study English is because of her career; she needs as many languages as possible. She would like to study marketing, TV and radio in the future.

She was expecting to go to Toronto, but they didn't have Academic Years in April. Lots of friends told her that Vancouver was great and she decided to come here; she arrived on April the 11 (which is my birthday) and she is leaving on December the 11. Being here has helped her to improve her Spanish as well, which is very funny, because she wasn't expecting to do this. Her dreams are to live in Sao Paulo, Brazil, work in a very important television station and to be successful in her career. Her fears are not getting a job, and depending on her parents. In her last year of university she realized lots of things, such as what she wants to do with her life. Living here has made her change lots of things. She learned to go shopping by herself, and taking a bus was something she hadn’t done before. "One of the most difficult things here is the food". She is expecting to go back, and eat all the food she likes. The thing that she enjoys the most here are her friends. In Brazil she didn’t have enough time for friends, but here you have all the time for friends. They are like your family, and you pass all your time with them. She thinks that when you are living here as an exchange student, it’s like being in a dream. You spend money, go out with friends whenever you want, and you don’t have real responsibilities; so going back to reality is what makes you realize all the things you have. At 40 years she sees herself as a married woman with kids (2 boys) and working as a supervisor or manager. Fernanda is a very nice person and you can see her always doing new things. She works on the EF magazine and many things are possible because of her. If you ever have the chance to talk with her, you can see all the good things she has. She is very talkative and optimistic.
Good luck in your life Fernanda! I hope all your wishes come true. |
