Feature: Do you know where the Yukon is? By Young Seok Nam and Min Ju Lee
It’s in northern Canada. The land, where people seldom visit, is the home of many wild animals. We were curious about this amazing place. But as you know, it is difficult to form a group of people who want to go there because of the great distance from Vancouver.
Finally, we formed an excursion party: Taehoon, Maki, Min-ju and Young-Seok. We tried to prepare our travel by searching for information about the Yukon, visiting the tourism information center, preparing the food and tent and renting the car. On the 1st and 2nd day, we left the school and drove. The Yukon is too far to arrive there in only one day. |

On the 3rd day, the first place we visited was "Post forest" in Watson Lake. We had big expectations because, we thought that we could watch "The Aurora" in Watson Lake, but it was a stupid misunderstanding. We thought we could see the real "Aurora" display, but what was advertised in the brochure was a film about "The Aurora" in a theater. We left with a disappointment beyond words.
On the 4th day ,we arrived in Whitehorse….the capital of the Yukon. There was a fish ladder which is the longest wooden ladder in the world. There we could see a twin rainbow. It was wonderful. The most wonderful thing was the experience in the camp site. We decided to sleep in our tent and car and we cooked our dinner over a campfire. We won’t forget the joy of hot dogs (sausage) on the fire camp. We prepared the wooden skewers for cooking the sausages and fixed the sausages onto the stick. While we talked about our travel, we slowly turned the sausages and the cheese seeped out onto the fire. When we looked at the sky, we were surprised to see…a lot of stars, sometimes we could also see what looked like moving stars. They seemed to exist in front of our eyes. It was amazing. |
On the 5th day, we climbed the mountain "The Kluaney" to see the Glacier, because the goal of our travel in the Yukon was to see the vast glacier. The color of the mountain was beautiful, but unfortunately we couldn’t find the glacier. In addition, we couldn’t find a place to sleep that night. At the end of trying to find the place, we found a free camp site, where other people were also traveling. While cooking dinner , we watched "The Aurora", we were so lucky, because "The Aurora" is an unusual phenomenon. As time went on, the amazing and rare "Aurora" moved with a strange sound. We suddenly became very busy, for we wanted to capture that scene in pictures. On the 6th day, we reached Dawson City. It looks like a city, which could be seen in an old western with old wooden buildings and sidewalks. Each building had its own history, according to the brochure. We had lunch in a restaurant in Dawson City. While waiting for our lunch, we thought that the people here were peaceful. The scene looked like everything had stopped in time. On the 7th and 8th day, we had to come back to Vancouver. We were thankful for having many interesting experiences, even if we had to drive a long distance. We won’t forget all these wonderful experiences, and we recommend that you visit the Yukon, if you want to have a special travel experience. Nobody can predict what will happen.
