Editor's Notes:
It was Wednesday, June 5th 1980. I was diligently studying (daydreaming)
in Ms. Borden's grade 4 class when somebody knocked on our classroom
door. Ms. Borden slowly walked to the door as the class quietly ignored
the interruption. Out of site, we could faintly hear her voice talking
to a man. When she came back to address the class, she said, "Good-bye
Brad, Happy Birthday." Completely confused, but willing to leave,
I closed my books, grabbed my bag and jacket and walked to the door, and
to my surprise I found...My Dad!? He said, "Happy Birthday,
do you want to see a movie?"
I couldn't believe it! Here's my Dad (an accountant) pulling
me out of school to take me to a movie (The Empire Strikes Back, too!)
on my birthday. Obviously, to this day, I still remember every detail
of my 10th birthday and the person who made it all happen.
On that note, it's June and two main features of it that come to mind:
Father's Day and Summer! Ahhh... what a great time of year to
celebrate and remember all those events your father created for you!
You could go to the beach (see Paola's article), have a barbeque
and sip on a few... "POPS." If your father is a free spirit,
Wreck Beach (see Claudio) might be an option. Or take a daytrip to Victoria
(see Paola and Boa) and see the gardens and concerts in this beautiful
little town. If your father is anything like my father, he probably loves
massages. Boa gives us a little background on Thai massages that will
make you relax just by reading it. Trust me...they're wonderful.
And if you have a little money and you want to extend the celebration
to more than just a day, Paz suggests that you come to her country, Chile,
and experience some of their wine tours and sunny weather. I don't
know about you, but I'm thinking about drinking a glass of Chilean
red, on a nude beach, while getting a Thai massage. PERFECT!
And if that's not enough, Raphael, our resident "French Lover,"
tells us about life in his world (dreamer!).
As for my Dad, outdoor parties and nude beaches may not
be his thing any more, and time makes it difficult to go to Victoria,
never mind Chile. Maybe I'll ask him if he wants to see a
movie.
